Who we are
We are an IB continuum school offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP). We are a communtiy of around 1100 students and 185 staff members from all over world. ISU is a member of the Dutch International Schools (DIS), a group of government-subsidised schools providing internationally oriented primary and/or secondary education. As such, ISU is part of two collaborating school boards, SPO Utrecht (primary) and Nuovo Scholen (secondary).
Role of the Inclusion Specialist
International School Utrecht is looking to recruit an enthusiastic inclusion specialist with a specialisation in dyslexia and executive functioning skills. The inclusion specialist is an educator who works to support teachers to teach and students to learn. The inclusion specialists design, monitor, and deliver interventions designed for the student’s development.
Qualifications and experience
- Relevant learning support qualification or equivalent in the field of education or psychology
- A solid understanding of a wide range of evidence-based learning support and social-emotional interventions used in a school setting
- Proven experience working in a school setting, preferably in a support role
- Excellent communication skills in both spoken and written English
- Willingness to work closely and collaboratively in a strong team and able to work independently
- Demonstrates professionalism, commitment, integrity, and perseverance
- Be culturally competent with an internationally minded attitude
Responsibilities
Provides support to students and their families by:
- Provide support to students based on student needs
- Provide individual or small group intervention when required
- As part of the inclusion team, plan and deliver evidence-based interventions and monitor progress
- Regularly, monitor and evaluate the progress toward meeting goals of individual or groups of students and adjust supports as needed
Provides support to teachers and parents/guardians of the students they support by:
- Support teacher(s) through sharing expertise; particularly with accommodating diversity and differentiation
- Support teachers in applying specific teaching materials in meeting the needs of students with additional needs
- Participates in meetings with parents/guardians as needed
- Discuss student’s needs and learning strategies
- Provide suggestions to parents as partner in their child’s education as needed
Teaching, learning and inclusion practices:
- Maintain professional competency through on-going professional development
- Acquire information and research, current intervention strategies to address various learning needs
- Establish and develop an effective working relationship with team members
- Establish in collaboration with the inclusion team, a system of files, records and documentation that is professional, efficient and accountable
- Contribute to the development and review of school policies and practices related to student support and inclusion
